Kurt Günter: A Brief Overview
Günter joined the Reichsmarine (German Navy) in 1942. He was trained as a torpedo mechanic after joining the navy and was assigned to patrol the Baltic Sea (Ostsee) and later a submarine unit in the North Sea. He survived an ordeal where his submarine was stranded for over 12 hours with no communication. Included here is the original hand-painted document he received with the watches.

Involvement with "Kampfschwimmer":
After surviving the submarine mission, Kurt volunteered for the elite Kampfschwimmer unit. This group was trained in sabotage and underwater operations and deployed in German-occupied Northern Europe. He was involved in several missions and fought against the British. One mission near the Eastern Front saw a group of six men (including Günter) sabotaging bridges. Only two survived the mission, with Günter returning and later being captured by the British.
